"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised"

But it might be streamed online….
When first thinking about societies influence on technology, I first thought about technologies influence on society. The articles made me realize how much influence technology has on society, how we act, converse, etc. In the United States social media sites has become a bridge that has linked cultures from around the world. The affect technology has had on society has been both positive and negative in many respects. In the case spoken about in one of the articles social media sites (such as twitter) have influenced how society organizes, and allows like minded people to organize and communicate in larger numbers.

Has the internet created a dystopian or utopian society? Are the actions expressed on the web correlated to real world circumstances? In many ways the web has created a utopian society that doesn’t directly correlate to the “real world” or the world that each of us are exposed to. Google, FaceBook, Twitter, etc allow individuals to act certain ways that they wouldn’t initially act outside the world of the web. This is both a positive and negative attribute of the web. It allows self-expression in societies that restrict it but it also allows bias in societies that in turn breeds racism, sexism etc.
